Resources for Apprenticeship & Pre-Apprenticeship Training Providers
The Importance of Growing a Skilled, Diverse Trades Workforce
The skilled labor shortage in the construction and manufacturing trades workforce is a growing problem for contractors and other employers. Women comprise 47 percent of the national labor force, but less than 3 percent of trades workers are female. Although there is no simple answer to filling in the labor gap, one way to attract more skilled workers is to draw women to the industry. Women bring skill and dedication to the job, and are increasingly valued as skilled tradespeople. The construction and manufacturing industries can benefit tremendously by supporting women working in the trades.
The below resources are designed to help employers, contractors, apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training providers, and other industry stakeholders improve their outreach, recruitment, training, and retention of skilled female trades workers.
